About LEOE
The Learning Experience Design and Online Education (LEOE) team provides faculty consultation and support in various digital learning and online teaching related matters including online teaching, course development, pedagogical innovation consultation, third-party tool training, teaching with technology support, and more. We also collaborate with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to co-support UCI faculty with their pedagogical teaching needs with the Canvas Learning Management System. Bo Choi

Bo is an experienced instructional designer, with significant training and many years of experience in creating effective learning experiences and materials for online learning. Bo is impeccably prepared and organized, two of the most important teaching factors for influencing student learning, according to meta-analysis studies of effective teaching characteristics. In addition, Bo is an engaging presenter, using well-designed activities, detailed and timely feedback, and has a habit of moving about the room to ensure that people are on task and have help. Bo uses campus learning technologies such as Canvas and third party tools to great effect, with attention to universal design principles that provide meaningful learning opportunities for students with different strengths, and with attention to accessibility issues so that students with disabilities or language barriers can fully participate.

Natalie Hadland

Natalie Hadland has been working as a video producer at UCI for a number of departments over her career, producing everything from educational videos to promotional materials to livestream conferences to feature-length documentaries. She loves to bring a creative eye to every project, and is skilled at animation and motion graphics, to help make educational videos both engaging and informative. Additionally, she offers consultation to instructors who are looking to produce their own video content, offering guidance and best practices to help make self-recording easy and fun. She is a creative problem-solver who loves to find innovative solutions and technologies to better aid faculty’s unique needs when teaching online.

Kailey Baez

Kailey is a full-time instructional designer who is passionate about empowering others through learning and technology. She has personal experience as an instructor, both online and in the classroom, and is dedicated to helping faculty find solutions to maximize student learning. As a lifelong learner, Kailey enjoys applying a combination of teaching experience with learning theory, technology, and design thinking to complex learning problems. It is her hope to help increase access to higher educational learning for all students.

Shu Fen (Fannie) Tsai

Fannie is an experienced and knowledgeable instructional technologist/course developer and designer. She is a lifelong learner who has pursued instructional design to combine her love of education with her technology expertise. Fannie has a BA in Multimedia/Web program from San Diego State University, worked there since she studied, and received her Master of Science in Instructional Technology at Fort Hays State University.
She has over ten years of experience working as a course developer/instructional designer in higher education (San Diego State University) and the corporate world. Fannie enjoyed meeting with faculty to design courses, which requires her to be familiar with their teaching methods and offer them the best instructional design practices. She enjoyed the exploration design elements in the web-based course that meet and exceed the specific needs of different cultures and leadership issues around the best practice to deliver, facilitate, and teach virtual environments. Fannie gained experience in accessibility with assistive technology eLearning training courses via distance and distributed learning nationally and internationally. She also has an extensive background (e.g., Web/HTML development, animation, and database programmer). Fannie knew that she wanted to do something meaningful and enjoyable with her skills and design courses representing each faculty member who works with UC, Irvine now. She also enjoys learning about their teaching styles and inspirations throughout various fields of study and supports them to take advantage of technology tools and features available to create an exceptional learning environment at UC, Irvine.

Jennifer Foung

Jennifer Foung is a media specialist and instructional designer focused on integrating innovative online learning technologies into the everyday classroom. Jennifer spent most of her professional career working with young adults and preparing them for a higher education research setting by teaching them information, media and digital literacy skills. Jennifer also has extensive experience in faculty training; particularly teaching faculty how to integrate educational technologies into their courses to engage students and encourage collaborative learning. Jennifer is an advocate of informal learning practices and believes the best type of learning occurs when students are given unstructured opportunities to think, discuss and apply. Jennifer also has experience in graphic and web design which she uses to enhance the look and feel of online courses. Jennifer values continual professional growth and is always on the lookout for innovative tools and ideas that can be used to motivate and engage learners.

Daphne Zhou

Daphne Zhou is a dedicated and self-motivated instructional technology/design professional offering a 6-year background in early childhood education, K-6, adult education, and higher education. She offers comprehensive experience in instructional design principles (ADDIE, UDL), Learning Management Systems, distance education, and educational technology. She is adept at integrating technology into synchronous and asynchronous blended/hybrid and online learning environments to enhance training programs.
