Our Approach to Advocacy
Curriculum Development
The Curriculum Development Team of SASI collaborates with teaching faculty and students to incorporate more social justice content into learning curriculum, particularly with majors and courses that are not traditionally taught within a social justice context. SASI believes that the direct inclusion of social justice into course curricula will lead to long-term and sustainable change because students will learn to think critically with a socially just lens.
Structural Policy
The Structural Policy Team of SASI works to propose administrative changes to UCI. These proposals aim to develop a stronger student-centered and supportive learning environment, one where students do not fear failure and learning is done by both educators and students. SASI believes that socially just changes on the administrative level will lead to long-term and sustainable change because it supports education accessibility.
Media and Public Relations
The Media and Public Relations Team of SASI promotes and shares SASI’s advocacy work. This includes creating projects that promote community engagement and collaboration with SASI at UCI. It also includes sharing SASI’s work online to reach a greater audience through multiple media forms, such as social media, audio/visual content, and events. The Media and PR Team supports the creation of long-term and sustainable socially just changes within education by increasing awareness about SASI’s work.
