UC I-nvestigates USC Commencement

Written in Spring 2024, SASI members wrote an opinion piece regarding the cancellation of USC’s commencement in fear of pro-Palestinian protest. Using previous cases of free protests on school campuses, free speech policies  at private and public universities, and talking with professors at UC Irvine, SASI aims to foster discussion among students, staff, and educators alike about the balance between free speech, academic freedom, and all that may come between it.

Zine

Summer 2024: this zine focuses on free speech on college campuses. It highlights differences in California private and public university policies, outlines a brief history of demonstrations at UC Irvine campus, and the history and definitions of free speech and academic freedom as it pertains to the UCs. Information may have changed since its creation, especially regarding faculty protocol on academic freedom, but it is still important to understand what policies informed events that have transpired.
