The UCI Celebration of Teaching recognizes the faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching at UC Irvine. Nominated by peers, students, and staff, award winners exemplify exceptional teaching across six award categories. Founded in 1992, to date over 300 professors, lecturers, and TAs have been recognized by their colleagues and students for exemplary teaching.

Dr. De Gallow Professor of the Year
Open to all Senate faculty members
Recognizes a faculty member who excels in teaching through the use of particular methods, tools, or materials that positively impact students.

Lecturer of the Year
Open to all full or part-time lecturers
Recognizes a lecturer who excels in teaching through the use of particular methods, tools, or materials that positively impact students.

Excellence in Digital Learning Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who utilizes innovative and effective uses of instructional technology and/or online teaching practices.

Excellence in Pedagogical Development Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who has spent considerable time and effort engaging in various pedagogical development opportunities. This could include personal pedagogical development, mentoring graduate students in pedagogy, or providing pedagogical development opportunities to colleagues or department.

The Learning Experience Design and Online Teaching Award
Open to faculty of all ranks
Recognizes an instructor who has devoted tremendous effort in designing an online learning space with digital active learning activities to enhance the student learning experience. This could include faculty who are creatively using the Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas) and various external learning tools to deliver an interactive hybrid, flipped, or online course.

Most Promising Future Faculty Award
Open to all graduate students
Recognizes graduate students (3 awards available) who show great promise through their effectiveness as an instructor/TA, their research, and their service to the department, university, profession, or community. Nominees must have advanced to candidacy.
